The older I get, the more I realize that our History books have lied to us (“misled” would be an understatement). The truth is that Columbus did not “sail the ocean blue in 1492” and discover America. The first Native Americans settled in North America as long as 15,000 years ago! There is some evidence that proves it was even much earlier than that. The truth is that America is stolen land; stolen by Caucasian people from Native Americans. They didn’t care if they had to murder for it (which they did without hesitation). And the worst part is, this country (America) refuses to take any responsibility for this national shame. Sound familiar? Slavery is yet another national shame that the US brushes under the rug. Not only do our History books conveniently forget about the attempted genocide of Native American people, but they re-narrate it and glamorize it as some kind of “discovery.” The common saying “no one is illegal on stolen land” could not be more true. For Caucasian people to consider indigenous people and native people “illegal” is almost laughable (not funny but laughable), because these very demographics are the true settlers/discoverers/habitants of this land we now call the United States. That is the truth.

Tens-of-thousands of Native Americans were forcefully exiled from their place of living by the United States government for about 20 years starting in 1830. It seems that the American government did not learn their lesson from The Trail of Tears because for the past four years Donald Trump has been trying to put a wall between the US and Mexico. Will the American government not stop until The United States is completely Caucasian? Just when we thought it couldn't get any worse, History continues to repeat itself as America continues to discriminate against literally anyone not white or male.
